Trader Joe's Black Miso Cod
Is Trader Joe's black miso cod really a dupe for the iconic Nobu dish? I had to try it and see what the hype is about.
Pros
- Fish is nice, soft, tender, and basically melts in your mouth
- Miso glaze gets beautifully caramelized in the air fryer
- I get the hype — would buy it again
- Great value compared to the Nobu original
Cons
- Need to remember to defrost overnight
- Costco has something similar if you want to compare
People are saying this fish from Trader Joe's is a dupe of the famous black cod miso from Nobu, so I was super curious to try it out. I've never been to Nobu, but I can still appreciate a nice fish.
How I Prepared It
Once you bring the fish home, definitely don't forget to defrost it. I left my fish in the fridge overnight and poured some extra marinade on top of the fillets right before air frying. Then I plated it up with some curly green onions — and don't ask me how long it took to get those nice and curly.
The Verdict
The caramelization turned out beautiful. The fish is nice, soft, and tender — it basically melts in your mouth. If you use the air fryer, the miso glaze gets nice and caramelized, which makes it extra tasty.
I will say Costco has something similar in their freezer section too. But for this one, I get the hype and I would buy it again.
